Organiza una historia extensa para que el oyente siga el inicio, la secuencia, el fondo simultáneo, el cambio repentino y el desenlace. En inglés usamos at the beginning, then/later, afterward, while, suddenly y at the end/in the end según la función exacta.

Inglés y español usan organizadores discursivos, pero no hay traducción mecánica uno-a-uno en todos los contextos. At the beginning y at first pueden coincidir aquí, pero no son intercambiables en cualquier oración. While introduce simultaneidad; suddenly marca un cambio inesperado.

Da un paso hacia atrás desde la línea principal del pasado con el past perfect ya aprendido y vuelve después a la secuencia principal. El foco es la relación temporal, no un tiempo verbal nuevo.

English past perfect uses had + past participle for every subject; Spanish cambia había/habíamos/habían. Esa diferencia reduce carga morfológica en inglés, pero exige sujeto explícito cuando se forma una oración completa.

Pronunciación: had /hæd/ suele reducirse en habla conectada; arrived /əˈraɪvd/ conserva /vd/ final. already /ɔːlˈrɛdi/; before /bɪˈfɔːr/.

Spanish preterite/imperfect morphology does not map one-to-one onto English simple past versus progressive. English viewpoint must be selected by meaning and discourse context, not by copying a Spanish ending.

Spanish un gran hombre vs un hombre grande and un pobre hombre vs un hombre pobre can change meaning through adjective position. English normally changes the adjective/meaning itself: a great man, a big man, an unfortunate man, a poor man.

Pronunciación: great /ɡreɪt/, big /bɪɡ/, poor /pʊr/ or /pɔːr/. In relative clauses, who/that/where are normally unstressed unless contrasted.

English and Spanish can attach a state adjective to the participant without adding be/ser/estar. Unlike Spanish, English adjectives do not agree for gender: tired, happy, worried and open stay unchanged.
