MODULE 001 · BUILDING BLOCK FOUNDATION

It is possible

One integrated lesson. Five new elements. One cognate family. Thirty progressive practices.

INTEGRATED LESSON

Build your first French thought

Begin with c’est as one complete building block meaning it is or that’s. You do not need a grammar explanation yet. Recognize the block, combine it, and use it.

Fixed opening blockc’estit is · that is · this is

Module 001 introduces exactly these five new learning elements:

COGNATE MODELpossiblepossibleSounds roughly like: poh-see-bl
CONNECTORetandSounds roughly like: ay
NOUN CHUNKun livrea bookSounds roughly like: uh(n) leevr
VERBêtreto beRecognition form only; use c’est as today’s working block.
ADJECTIVEpetitsmall · littleSounds roughly like: puh-tee

The practice sequence begins with one building block, adds one element at a time, and finishes with complete thoughts using only authorized Module 001 material.

COGNATE RECOGNITION RULE

English -ble often remains French -ble

Model: English possible → French possible. Many familiar English words ending in -able or -ible keep a closely related -able or -ible form in French. After the rule is revealed, this module may use validated family members: admirable, flexible, visible, acceptable, probable, notable, durable, and terrible.

Recognition rule, not a guarantee: spelling similarity must also match meaning. Do not apply the pattern blindly to every English word.

30 PROGRESSIVE PRACTICES

Recognize, retrieve, and combine

Read the French, think of the meaning, and type the English answer. Use Hint or Reveal only when needed. Listen plays the French. Hold the microphone button to practise saying the French aloud.
