You Need and You Know
Use necesita for polite “you need” and sabe for polite “you know.” Ask useful questions, make negatives, and combine these new forms with familiar building blocks from Modules 1–8.

Use necesita to say what another person needs and to ask polite questions with familiar words.

Spanish often leaves out usted. Here, necesita by itself can mean you need.
Build the meaning step by step
Necesita información. = You need information.
No necesita una reservación. = You do not need a reservation.
¿Necesita un documento? = Do you need a document?
Compare necesito and necesita
Necesito means I need. Necesita means polite you need.
Necesito información. = I need information. Necesita información. = You need information.
The -o ending in necesito points to I. The form necesita points to polite you. Put no directly before the verb to make it negative.

Add sabe to say what another person knows, ask what they know, and connect it to quiere, puede, and necesita.

Combine familiar building blocks
Sabe qué quiere. = You know what you want.
Necesita saber dónde está. = You need to know where it is.
No sabe si puede verlo. = You do not know if you can see it.
Use qué for what, dónde for where, por qué for why, and si for if. Notice that qué, dónde, and por qué carry accents in questions and connected question ideas.

- Necesito means “I need.” Necesita means polite “you need.”
