What Is a Direct Object?

A direct object is thething or person directly affected by the action. Start with meaning, not labels.

English: I wantthe car.

el carro— the affected thing

Compare Spanish and English:Both languages have the same basic relationship: someone does an action, and something or someone can be directly affected by it. The grammatical label matters less than finding that meaning relationship.

Find the Direct Object in Spanish

Direct Object Pronouns: Singular

Direct Object Pronouns: Plural
