Spanish grammar for English speakers

Spanish usually follows subject + verb + object, but subject pronouns are often omitted because the verb ending identifies the person.

Most nouns are treated as masculine or feminine. Learn the article with the noun: un libro, una idea.

Many adjectives change to match gender and number: pequeño, pequeña, pequeños, pequeñas.

Spanish verbs change for person and time. Learn only the forms introduced in your current module.

Both can mean “to be,” but they are used for different kinds of identity, condition and location.

Question marks appear at both ends: ¿...? Word order may remain similar to a statement.

Accents can identify stress or distinguish words, as in mi and mí.
